The Peteme Dog Training Collar is a creation of the Peteme brand. Now, Peteme as a brand carries products that cater to a wide range of pets. This range is wide enough that it includes pigs, hamsters and parrots.

Whatever it is that pets need, Peteme probably has it. However, this article is not necessarily about all that Peteme has to offer but about the Peteme Dog Training Collar, specifically.

This is a shock training collar for dogs. Since we cannot cover all there is to know about shock collars or training collars in general, we recommend that you check out these articles on dog training collars and dog shock collars.

Who Can Wear The Peteme Dog Training Collar?

The Peteme Dog Training Collar has a maximum weight recommendation of 88 pounds. So, if your dog is any heavier it might not have much of an impact on him. Furthermore, if your dog is really young, say younger than six weeks young, he shouldn’t be wearing this collar. Other dogs that shouldn’t wear this collar include pregnant and lactating mothers, invalid dogs, senior dogs, and overly aggressive dogs.

Now to the features.

What Are The Features Of The Peteme Dog Training Collar?

The features of the Peteme Dog Training Collar are listed below:

  1. A remote transmitter.
  2. Three correction modes: warning beep, vibration, and static shock.
  3. LCD screen.
  4. Rechargeable battery.
  5. A charging cable.
  6. An antenna.
  7. A collar receiver.
  8. Two pairs of silicone covers.
  9. Reflective nylon collar strap.
  10. Plastic buckle.
  11. Plastic tri-glide.

1. Remote Transmitter

Let’s start with the correction modes. The Peteme Dog Training Collar has 3 correction modes: warning beep, vibration and static shock.

There are dedicated buttons for each of the correction modes. Each of the buttons have an icon that should be indicative of their function. So, you should not have any issues figuring that out.

The only other button on this remote is the channel button. Now, that channel button is tagged ½. And what the channel button does is to help you juggle between more than one collar receiver connected to the remote. The vibration option has 8 levels to it while the shock option has 16 levels.

We should mention here that whatever operation you carry out on the remote can be seen on the LCD screen. You can even see the battery life so that you’ll know when to recharge.

One interesting thing about the Peteme Dog Training Collar is that it has Blind Operation Identification Points. The idea for this is to help you figure out which button is which without having to actually look at the remote. This really makes sense to us.

Furthermore, there is a charging port at the bottom of the remote which already tells you that the remote is rechargeable.

Lastly, the antenna. The antenna ensures that whatever signal the remote is sending is accurately received by the collar receiver. For this remote, signals can reach the collar receiver from as much of a distance as 330 yards.

2. Collar Receiver

This is that stuff that actually sends the correction mode. Remember we said that this is a shock collar. Well, this is the basic reason the collar has contact points on it.

Those contact points transmit the static shock to the wearer. Now, to make things safer, this collar comes with two pairs of silicone covers.

The two pairs are not the same size, and the reason is that not all dogs have the same fur length. If your dog is thick furred, you’ll need to use the longer silicone tips, and vice versa.

Very close to the contact points is a charging port. So yes, the collar receiver is also rechargeable. Also, the collar receiver is waterproof.

3. Collar Strap

It has a nylon collar strap. It is also reflective as it has two strips of reflective stitching sewn into it.

Furthermore, this Dog Training Collar uses a plastic buckle for a clasp. And because of the construction of the strap, the buckle shouldn’t touch the skin of the wearer. Take note of this if your dog usually has reactions to buckles.

The tri-glide is another plastic thing on this collar and it’s used for adjusting the collar to the proper size. Especially seeing as the collar is one-size-fits-all.

4. Charger

This Training Collar comes with a charging cable with two ends on one side. The idea is for you to be able to recharge both the collar receiver and the remote transmitter at the same time.

Is The Peteme Dog Training Collar User-Friendly?

Both the remote transmitter and the collar receiver of the Peteme Dog Training Collar are easy to operate. You could probably figure things out without have prior knowledge of how to use it.

However, we cannot conclude this without pointing out that you need to have spoken with your veterinarian and or dog trainer before even checking out this review. If you haven’t, you should do that now.

Peteme Dog Training Collar — FAQs

Is The Peteme Dog Training Collar Safe for Dogs?

Shock collars are not a great idea for training dogs and there are much better, not to mention more humane, ways to train your dog.

The Peteme Dog Training Collar comes with different correction modes. Hence, we advise that you do not begin by using the shock mode from the get-go. Start with the warning beeps and vibration modes and only use the shock mode if your dog is not really responding to the first two modes.

How Long Should A Dog Wear A Training Collar?

If you’re consistent with your training, within 6 months to 12 months, your dog might not need to wear a training collar every day afterward.\

How Long Should A Dog Wear A Shock Collar?

Your dog should not have a shock collar on longer than 12 hours at a stretch.

Also, every couple of hours, reposition the collar on your dog’s neck and check for fit. This will ensure that the collar is not too tight on your dog’s neck and he’s not uncomfortable.

Is My Dog Too Old For A Shock Collar?

A dog is never too old to be trained. The main issue with training an old dog is that their habits are already formed which means it can be tough to change. But it is not impossible to train an old dog.

As long as you’re patient, you should be able to effectively train your old dog and see positive changes.

Do Shock Collars Work On Older Dogs?

Shock collars work on dogs of all breeds and dogs of all ages. Nevertheless, shock collars are still not the best mode for training your dog effectively.

There are many other more humane methods that are safe and effective as well for dogs of all ages.

Are Shock Collars Safe For Older Dogs?

Generally, it is assumed that the electricity emitted from a shock collar is not intense enough to do any real damage to dogs when they wear a shock collar. Nonetheless, it is not a good idea to use a shock collar on a senior as they are not usually as strong and as healthy as younger dogs.

Moreover, older dogs are hardly ever so badly misbehaved that they need correction with a shock collar. Your dog’s old age is a time for you to spend more time with her and make her feel as loved and as comfortable as possible.

You never know when the inevitable would happen and you want the last years/months/weeks with your dogs to be as memorable and joyful as you can make it.
