The EzyDog Checkmate Martingale Collar is a martingale which makes it a training collar, obviously for dogs in training. It should not be used on young puppies, therefore. Any pup less than 6 weeks old, that is.
In fact, you should be especially careful with this kind of collar seeing as they are constructed to tighten when pressure is added.
A martingale is usually used for dogs whose necks are almost the same size as their bodies. These dogs can easily slip out of a regular collar but not a martingale.
Anyway, this collar comes in four sizes; small, medium, large, and extra-large. Small adjusts between 10 and 13 inches while medium adjusts between 13 and 18 inches. On the other hand, large adjusts between 17 and 26 inches while extra-large adjusts between 22 and 33 inches.

1. Material
The EzyDog Checkmate Martingale Collar is made of nylon that’s pretty tough and rugged as it should be, seeing as the collar is meant for dogs that engage in high-energy activities. Impressively though, it still manages to be lightweight all the same which is great for your dog.
It is also pretty comfortable for a collar that is not padded. We don’t expect the collar to cause the wearer any injuries or for it to itch.
The edges of this collar are properly stitched too to prevent fraying. Now, these stitches are reflective stitches which makes it easy to see in dim light. Don’t get your hopes up too much though, these lights are not the brightest.
Finally, the nylon material means that this collar is waterproof and washable as well.
2. Design
The EzyDog collar is not like your regular martingale collar in that it only comes with a single loop. However, it is designed more like a choke collar. When you pull on the leash hooked D Ring, the entire collar tightens, leaving a strap of collar behind.
But then again, this is a martingale collar, and just like all martingales, it can only get so tight. This is probably the only thing that qualifies it to be a martingale.
It comes in 8 different color options. However, the part of the collar that forms the extra strap when the collar is pulled on (which also carries the brand logo, by the way) is always black, irrespective of the color of the collar.
3. Clasp And D Ring
The EzyDog Checkmate Martingale Collar uses a black plastic buckle for a clasp. We like that there is a clasp on this collar because it saves you the stress of resizing every time you have to use the collar on your dog.
The D Ring is very instrumental in this collar. This is what you’ll your dog’s leash to. Now, when you pull on that D Ring with the leash, be careful to pull gently and also release when your dog has gotten the message.
4. Tri-Glide And ID Ring
The EzyDog Checkmate Martingale Collar is an adjustable collar. And it features a plastic, easy-to-use tri-glide for this exact purpose.
The ID ring is another plastic thing. It is not affixed to the collar so it can slide around. You shouldn’t be thinking of attaching your dog’s leash to that ring because it will cave under all the weight. It is meant for just your dog’s ID tag or any such small stuff, say an accessory.
