Petronics Remote Controlled Shock Collar — In-Depth Review

Petronics Rechargeable Shock Training Collar with Remote, Electronic for Large Dog with Static, Vibration, Beep and Light, 330 yd.

Petronics is majorly a cat company. In fact, the Petronics Remote Controlled Shock Collar is Petronics’ only dog product. Yet, it did an amazing job of it.

Petronics is a fairly new company (created in 2014) that was founded by 3 electrical engineers, although, right now, there are about 10 members of the company. Between 2014 and now, this brand has grown in all ramifications up to the point of developing its first-ever dog product.

The Petronics Remote Controlled Shock Collar is a shock collar which is a kind of training collar. (Click here to read our article on dog training collars if you’re confused as to whether or not your dog needs a training collar).

Can All Dogs Use The Petronics Remote Controlled Shock Collar?

Well, the Petronics Remote Controlled Shock Collar is actually for dogs who are going through training. If your dog is already properly house trained, he probably wouldn’t still need a training collar. Other than that, Petronics tells us that it can be worn by dogs of any breed and size. All you need to do is adjust it to the perfect fit.

What Are The Features Of The Petronics Remote Controlled Shock Collar?

Here are the features of the Petronics Remote Controlled Shock Collar listed below:

  1. A remote transmitter.
  2. A collar receiver.
  3. Four correction modes.
  4. Nylon strap.
  5. Rechargeable battery.
  6. Charger and cable.

1. Remote Transmitter

The Petronics Remote Controlled Shock Collar is, to a large extent, controlled by its remote transmitter. First things first, the remote transmitter has the capacity to control two collars simultaneously. However, the package comes with just one collar. If you have two dogs, you could just purchase an extra collar.

Now, the remote transmitter is the device from which you control the kind and intensity of correction that will be transmitted.

You set it to whatever mode and intensity you think is comfortable. So, when your dog does something wrong, you press the right button on the controller and the collar does what it ought.

The remote controller can cover as far as 330 yards which is quite wide if you ask us.

If your dog has run off and you need to get him back, just press the appropriate button on the remote and he comes running back (provided he understands what the correction is for).

2. Correction Options

The Petronics Shock Collar has a wide range of correction options available to you. For one, you can set the transmitter to light (not for correction), vibration, standard tone, and static shock.

The light is more visibility purposes.

The standard tone is more like a mild correction mode for dogs that are mostly well behaved.

The vibration is a step above the tone because your dog will actually feel something on his skin but it is neither painful nor uncomfortable.

The static shock is the highest mode of correction and is usually used on dogs that are considered tough to handle.

With the static shock, you also have options of intensity levels. The intensity levels run from 1 to 100 which gives you a wide range of options.

Just be sure to start at the very lowest level of intensity and then gradually progress if it doesn’t seem sufficient.

We are sure that you will never have to use the 100th intensity level. No dog is that bad. Petronics Rechargeable Shock Training Collar with Remote, Electronic for Large Dog with Static, Vibration, Beep and Light, 330 yd.

3. Strap

The strap is made up of a nylon band and what is called a collar receiver. It is this collar receiver that is responsible for sending the correction. It receives a signal from the transmitter and acts accordingly.

The collar receiver is attached to a nylon band that allows it to stay around your dog’s neck. Nylon affords the collar a comfortability that allows it stay around your dog’s neck without causing harm.

4. Power

Both the collar receiver and the remote transmitter are powered by rechargeable batteries. So if the battery goes down, you remove the collar receiver from the band and plug it to a power outlet.

Same goes for the remote transmitter (except the removing part). The Petronics Shock Collar comes with its own charger and charging cable.

Is The Petronics Remote Controlled Shock Collar User-Friendly?

As shock collars go, the Petronics Remote Controlled Shock Collar is fairly user-friendly. The remote transmitter is not difficult to use and it comes with an instruction manual that is quite easy to follow. You should be fine if you follow the instructions carefully.

Petronics Remote Controlled Shock Collar FAQs

Is The Petronics Remote Controlled Shock Collar Good For Dogs?

Generally, we do not recommend shock collars in the training of dogs. However, among the shock collars in the market, users have found the Petronics Remote Controlled Shock Collar a good buy hence its popularity among dog owners.

It’s a good thing that this collar comes with other correction modes besides static shock. This gives you other more humane options to begin with in training your dog before resorting to electric shocks.

Besides all of that, this is an affordable device and it comes with a five-year warranty.

Can A Shock Collar Kill A Dog?

The shock delivered by a shock collar is considered low-intensity enough to be safe for use as a corrective measure in dogs. Hence, generally, an approved shock collar cannot kill a dog.

How Do You Reset A Shock Collar?

Resetting a shock collar involves unpairing the remote controller and the collar receiver and repairing them.

Put off both the remote controller and collar receiver. Then follow the manual to learn how to pair both devices together again.

The procedure will typically differ from collar to collar. But generally, once the two have been paired again, you might see a blink of light or hear a beep. Then you know your collar has been reset and is now ready for use.

Can A Shock Collar Kill A Cat?

Some shock collars specifically made for dogs might be able to kill a cat as dogs are considerably bigger than cats.

Also, both for cats and dogs, it’s better to stay away from collars that correct using electric shocks as they might send shocks strong enough to harm a pet.

Can A Dog Wear A Shock Collar In The Rain?

Whenever you’re buying a training collar, shock collars inclusive, it’s always advisable to go for waterproof collars.

With waterproof collars, in unpredictable, inclement weather, or when walking near a body of water, you wouldn’t need to worry about your dog’s safety.

How Many Volts Should A Dog Shock Collar Have?

Typically, shock collars deliver about 400 to 6000 volts of electric shock. Of course, the figures vary from collar to collar.

However, it’s not the intensity of the voltage that does the damage. There’s a lot more that goes into whether or not a dog gets electrocuted by a shock collar than just the voltage.

Other factors like amperage and how long the exposure to the shock was also play a role.
