DogRook Dog Bark Collar– Detailed Review

DogRook Rechargeable Bark Collar - Humane, No Shock Training Collar - Action Without Remote - Vibration & Sound Care Modes - for Small, Medium, Large Dogs Breeds - No Harm Deterrent Vibrating Control

The DogRook Dog Bark Collar is a creation of the DogRook brand. From our research, it looks to us like this is the only product to this brand’s name.

DogRook is one of the newcomers in the dog supplies business and so it is understandable that it has just this one product to its name.

If you’re not familiar with the concept of bark control collars, we recommend that you go check out one or all of the following articles: dog training collar, dog shock collar, and dog spray collar.

But before we get into the review in details, let’s see…

Who Can Wear The DogRook Dog Bark Collar?

The DogRook Dog Bark Collar is a versatile collar that all dogs weighing between 11 and 110 pounds can wear. However, this collar, like all bark collars, is not suitable for puppies, sick dogs, or nursing mothers. Such dogs should be given time to grow and recover respectively before training commences or resumes.

What Are The Features Of The DogRook Dog Bark Collar?

The following are the features of the DogRook Dog Bark Collar

  • A collar receiver.
  • A collar strap.
  • Plastic probes.
  • Batteries.
  • A user manual.

1. Collar Receiver

First off, we need to point out that the DogRook Dog Bark Collar is not a shock collar. The only correction modes it makes use of are vibrations and warning sounds.

Furthermore, the collar receiver can be set to any of the 7 levels of sensitivity. The choice of level is usually based on the size of the dog, the amount of background noise or a combination of the two.

Whatever is your basis, be sure to start with the least sensitive level (level 1) especially if your dog is small. The only two buttons on the receiver are for navigating the different levels of sensitivity.

Now, you should know that the collar will not just go sending off correction modes for no reason. There has to be a reason for it and in this case, it is your dog’s barks.

What happens is that your dog barks and the receiver picks the sound (hence, the name ‘receiver’). The idea is for the receiver to pick up sounds coming from the wearer alone.

However, if a random dog barks close enough, there is a possibility that the receiver will pick up that sound and send the correction to the wearer. You could control this a bit by setting the receiver to a lower sensitivity level if the wearer will be around other dogs.

Furthermore, the collar receiver is splash, snow and rainproof. However, you do not want to submerge the collar for any reason.

One more thing! You can decide to change the face of the receiver. The collar comes with two faces in different colors; one is blue and the other is orange and of course, they are detachable. If you want yet more colors, you could get two extra colors; black and pink.

2. Collar Strap

The collar strap is made of strong nylon material. This is the only part of the DogRook Dog Bark Collar that you can dunk and submerge all you want. The strap uses a black buckle for a strap.

The strap is adjustable to between 9 and 22 inches. Thus, there is a plastic tri-glide for that purpose. What’s more? The strap has two lines of reflective stitching that should make the collar a useful tool if you want to train your dog in the night.

3. Plastic Probes

The DogRook Dog Bark Collar comes with two pairs of plastic probes. The idea for the two different length pairs is so that whether your dog is long-haired or short-haired, he’ll have a pair that should reach his neck.

4. Battery

The DogRook Dog Bark Collar uses replaceable batteries and so comes with 2 6v 4LR44 alkaline batteries. You’ll need just one at a time, though.

5. User Manual

Despite the fact that this collar is pretty easy to use, it still comes with one user manual. Furthermore, it comes with a gift flyer. The gift flyer contains instructions on how to download the “How To Train Your Dog e-book”.

Is The DogRook Dog Bark Collar User-Friendly?

The DogRook Dog Bark Collar is quite user-friendly. There are only two buttons on this collar and both buttons are used for navigating among the sensitivity levels. That’s basically all the operation there is to this collar. With the added help of the user manual, you’re really not doing anything.

However, we think it is necessary you inform your veterinarian and, or, dog trainer before you purchase such a sensitive collar.

This is not necessarily because you can’t handle things on your own but because they are in the right position to help you figure out if your dog needs the collar in the first place.

Is The DogRook Dog Bark Collar Good?

The DogRook Dog Bark Collar is an excellent collar with several pros. For one, it’s a no-shock collar. It vibrates when it detects barking rather than emitting electric shocks to your pet, making it a more humane option for controlling excessive barking. The vibration comes with seven levels of sensitivity which makes the collar user-friendly and easily customizable. The DogRook Dog Bark Collar comes with the option of changing the color of the face of the collar which is more whimsical than it is functional but is still a nice touch. It also comes with an ebook which is an added benefit.

What Are The Pros Of The DogRook Bark Collar?

  • Different colors available.
  • This is a no shock collar.
  • Comes with a free ebook.

1. Different Faces

We like that there is the option of changing the face of the collar to another color. After all, variety is the spice of life.

2. No-Shock Collar

We also like that the DogRook Dog Bark Collar decided to do without the shock option. We are not comfortable with shocking your dog to get him to mind.

3. The Gift

Who doesn’t like gifts? Not us definitely! We like that DogRook added a little something in the form of a flyer that should help us download a little something in the form of an e-book.

What Are The Cons Of The DogRook Dog Bark Collar?

The DogRook Dog Bark Collar has one major con and that is that it picks up whines and barks from other dogs especially when you increase the sensitivity of the collar.  Reducing the sensitivity, on the other hand, means the collar might not pick up whines, whimpers and even low pitched barks. So, you’re stuck.

What Are Alternative Options To The DogRook Dog Bark Collar?

If you’re not interested in getting the DogRook Dog Bark Collar, you can get the more affordable Barklo Bark Collar which is also a no-shock collar and comes with a rechargeable battery. You can also get the more sophisticated TBI Pro Bark Collar. It costs more than the DogRook Dog Bark Collar but it does come with a digital display screen which is a huge plus. If neither of these alternatives work, you can go for the Backguard Citronella Anti-Bark Collar. This spritzes citronella into your face to correct excessive barking instead of vibrations or electric shocks.

More Affordable Option — Barklo Bark Control Collar

Are you on a budget? Then you might want to check out something like the Barklo Bark Control Collar. It’s not exactly up to par with our featured collar but it can hold its own.

For one, it is a no-shock collar, using only vibrations and warning beeps for correction. Also, the collar strap has two strips of reflective stitches.

One reason we prefer this one to our featured collar is that the Barklo Bark Control Collar is rechargeable. You should go check this review for more information.

DogRook Dog Bark Collar FAQs

How Do You Use A DogRook Bark Collar?

First, install the battery in the battery compartment of the collar which you will find in the front part of the collar. You’d have to take off the colored panel to reveal the battery compartment and then take off the black cover to reveal the space into which the battery goes. Once you’ve inserted the battery, replace the covers. First, the black cover, and then the colored cover and your DogRook Bark Collar is ready to charge (if it’s a rechargeable battery).

After charging the collar, push down the power button to turn on the collar. It shows a green light when it’s on. Once the collar is on, you can adjust the sensitivity levels to your preferred level between one and seven. Don’t forget to fix the probes that come with the collar to the back of the collar. The collar is now ready to use.

Do Vibration Bark Collars Work?

Vibration collars do not have the versatility that static shock collars afford. However, they are a practical alternative for those who, for good reason, consider shock collars inhumane for dogs. Like other anti-bark collars, their success rates are not 100% and there is the probability that your dog will get accustomed to it and begin barking again.

Do Vibration Collars Work For Dog Training?

Vibration collars are a great idea for dog training because they are more humane. But even more especially, these collars are great for deaf dogs who won’t be able to hear your voice or a clicker. If you have such a dog, a vibration collar might be your best bet for training him.

Is A Vibration Collar The Same As A Shock Collar?

A vibration collar is not the same as a shock collar. For correction, vibration collars use vibrations at different levels when it detects your dog barking. Shock collars, on the other hand, deliver little static shocks to the wearer of the collar as it detects barking. The static shocks are also delivered at different levels as well. Most people consider vibration collars a more humane bark-control collar when compared to shock collars.

Are Vibrating Dog Collars Banned?

Although the issue of whether or not vibrating dog collars are cruel is still mostly controversial, vibrating dog collars have not been banned anywhere in the world yet. Many pet advocates, though, are of the opinion that bark collars, in general, are cruel for dogs because of the use of punishment. Shock collars, on the other hand, are banned in certain parts of the world.

Should I Take My Dog’s Collar Off At Night?

It’s important to take your dog’s collar off at night before he goes to bed. Making your dog wear a collar all day is very uncomfortable for him even if it’s his right size. When going to bed, take off your dog’s collar to give the skin there some time to get some needed air while your dog sleeps. It’s better and healthier for him.
