TBI Pro Bark Collar — Indepth Review

Bark Collar for Dogs - Effective K9 Professional Dog Bark Collar w/ Barking Detection - Rechargeable, Triple Anti-Barking Modes: Shock/ Vibration for Small, Medium, Large Dogs Breeds - IPx7 Waterproof

The TBI Pro Bark Collar is a product of the TBI Pro Company.

TBI (The Best Industries) produces electronic devices some of which happen to include bark control collars. However, we should point out there that this company is not strictly a dog brand as it carries other electronics that are human-specific.

Now, the TBI Pro Bark Collar is a bark control collar. And so, it would be helpful if you go check out this article on dog training collars so you have the basic idea of what this collar is about.

Who Can Wear The TBI Pro Bark Collar?

The TBI Pro Bark Collar is a bark control collar meant for dogs who need to learn a thing or two about proper bark behavior. This automatically excludes really young puppies, really old dogs, pregnant and lactating mothers, and invalid dogs as well. Being an adjustable collar, this collar will fit dogs weighing between 7 pounds and 12 pounds.

Any dog that weighs less should probably not be wearing any kind of electronic collar in the first place. Now to the features.

What Are The Features Of The TBI Pro Bark Collar?

The TBI Pro Bark Collar comes with the following features:

  • Bark receiver.
  • Electrodes.
  • Collar strap.
  • Test light.
  • USB cable.
  • Training manual.

1. Bark Receiver

As the name suggests, the bark receiver is the hardware that is responsible for picking up the barks from your dog. The receiver picks up vibrations from your dog’s throat, not sounds from his mouth.

This already tells us two things. One, the collar has to be snug against the wearer’s neck; not tight but snug. This should allow the collar to correctly pick up the vibrations coming from the wearer’s throat.

Two, there is a reduced chance of the collar picking up random bark sounds from other dogs.

Furthermore, aside from picking up the ‘wrong behavior’, the bark receiver also sends the appropriate correction. The TBI Pro Bark Collar comes with 3 correction modes: warning beep, vibration, and shock.

While most other bark collars administer the corrections progressively, that is, from warning beep to vibration and then shock (depending on how long the wearer continues to bark), the TBI Pro Bark Collar allows you to shut off the shock option.

The TBI Pro Bark Collar has this feature that causes it to automatically shut off after it has been triggered up to 7 times in one minute.

So, if your dog continues barking so that the collar has to correct him for up to 7 times in one minute, the collar will take a one minute break before resuming.

Also, you should know that the TBI Pro Bark Collar has 5 sensitivity levels. All these features allow you to tailor the collar to your dog’s specific needs and even weight.

Finally, there is a digital display screen on the receiver which allows to you see all you’re doing on the receiver.

2. Electrodes

The electrodes come in handy when the collar is on “shock mode”. The static shock will be transmitted from the bark receiver to the wearer’s neck via these electrodes.

To protect your pooch, the TBI Pro Bark Collar comes with 4 pairs of silicon covers. The silicon covers are meant for the electrodes so that the metal does not have direct contact with your dog’s neck.

3. Collar Strap

You should already know that is what actually goes around your dog’s neck. However, what you probably don’t know is that the TBI Pro Bark Collar comes with two collar straps: one is nylon while the other is leather TPU.

Both the straps are adjustable and reflective. However, while you can toss the nylon strap in your washer, you can’t do that with the leather TPU. Also, while the nylon strap uses a plastic buckle for a clasp, the leather TPU makes use of a metal buckle.

Both the straps are water safe, though, just like the rest of the collar. But you’ll want to remove the collar if your dog is going to be submerged underwater.

4. Test Light

The test light is necessary to help you know if the shock option actually works. What you need to do is to place this above the connected electrodes and then trigger the receiver. The bulb should light up if the shock is functional.

5. USB Cable

The TBI Pro Bark Collar is rechargeable and so comes with its own USB cable. You can plug this cable to practically any device that has a USB port. Also, the collar can hold the charge for a reasonable period of time.

6. Training Manual

The TBI Pro Bark Collar comes with one training manual to help you figure out the working of the collar.

Is The TBI Pro Bark Collar User-Friendly?

The display screen on the TBI Pro Bark Collar makes it really easy to use.

However, because of the sensitivity of this collar, we advise that you inform your veterinarian and, or, dog trainer before going to pick up a bark control collar for your dog.

What Are The Advantages Of The TBI Pro Bark Collar?

  • Shock feature can be turned off
  • Comes with two straps of different materials which gives you options in case your dog is allergic to one.
  • Electrodes are not in direct contact with your dog’s skin.
  • Comes with a display screen.

What Are The Cons Of The TBI Pro Bark Collar?

The TBI Pro Bark Collar picks up on the barks of other dogs sometimes if they are close enough.

Does The TBI Pro Bark Collar Pick The Barks Of Other Dogs?

Now, while the TBI Pro Bark Collar is meant to pick up vibrations from your dog alone, there is still the probability of the collar going off if some other dog barks close enough. However, because the TBI Pro Bark Collar picks vibrations from the throat rather than from the mouth, the probability of that happening is a bit reduced.

What happens is, when the collar detects the bark sounds, it shoots a spray of citronella to the wearer’s face.

However, we should mention here that the Barkguard Citronella Anti-Bark Collar doesn’t come with its own fluid and Barkguard doesn’t even produce it. So, if you’ll go with this collar, you’ have to get the citronella fluid from another brand.

TBI Pro Bark Collar Review – FAQs

Do Bark Collars Actually Work?

Dog bark collars work as long as you’re using a high-quality collar and using it correctly. Also, the dog owner should not forget the place of dog training as this is where the root cause of excessive barking is addressed. In other words, bark collars address symptoms while dog training nips the problem in the bud.

Of course, not all kinds of bark collars work for all dogs. Hence, it might take a bit of trial and error to finally land the collar that works best for your dog.

Do Vets Recommend Anti-Bark Collars?

Anti-bark collars are not usually a vet’s first recourse when it comes to handling excessive barking. Especially if the barking is as a result of anxiety, compulsion, or fear, your vet would recommend you to a vet behaviorist or a certified professional dog trainer to help your dog work through the problem.

This, however, does not take away from the effectiveness of anti-bark collars.

Are Barking Collars Cruel?

Many people consider anti-bark collars cruel and inhumane as they use punishment to correct a behavior that a dog does not exactly have control over. In fact, in some places in the United States and other parts of the world, the use of anti-bark collars is considered illegal.

While the debates continue, on the issue of shock collars, there seems to be a unanimity of opinion as most consider shock collars cruel and inhumane.

Do Dogs Get Tired Of Barking?

Dogs do not necessarily get tired of barking per se and there are several reasons dogs bark. Dogs can bark as a result of fear, anxiety, or even boredom. Nonetheless, a tired dog will, definitely, bark less than an energetic one.

While you can’t expect that your dog will always be quiet, if you think your dog is barking excessively, then he probably is and that needs to be attended to.

Will A Muzzle Stop A Dog From Barking?

Technically, a muzzle will stop a dog from barking. It will also stop your dog from eating, drinking, or panting. Hence, muzzling is not considered a practical way to keep your dog from barking excessively. Plus, since panting is one way your dog keeps cool in the heat, muzzling your dog for too long can cause overheating which is quite dangerous for dogs.

What Is An Acceptable Level Of Dog Barking?

For the average neighborhood, barking four times a day is considered normal for any dog. So, between the hours of 9 am and 9 pm, if your dog is barking five minutes an hour, four times a day, you don’t have anything to worry about. If it’s more than that, then you need to check your dog.

  1. Worse company ever. Will never buy from again. Will not honor warranty and refuse to give money back when items don’t work. Do not buy from TBI.
