Who Can Wear The Coastal Pet Products Choke Collar?
First of all, only dogs who need to be trained need wear this collar. This automatically cancels out puppies younger than 6 months, pregnant and lactating mothers and senior dogs.
Now that we’ve got that sorted, the collar is a once size fits all. This means that it comes in only one size that is supposed to fit different dog breeds.
It is a 24 inch collar that can’t be adjusted. The size includes the rings too; that is, the collar is 24 inches from one ring to the other.

1. Material
The collar is made of metal and is coated with chrome which makes it a pretty durable collar. The metal used is strong and created to withstand a lot of pressure.
Additionally, the chrome coating makes it rust and tarnish resistant. This invariably means that your dog can wear this collar in and around water.
2. Design
This collar is basically a chain with a ring on either end of it. It is made up of little links that are joined together such that you can’t get them apart. Except with a plier, maybe.
The links are argon welded, reinforcing the connection such that the chain shouldn’t break, at least not easily.
This collar is only medium thick. So it shouldn’t seat too heavily on medium to small sized dogs.
However, the weight might be insignificant for large dogs. Insignificant enough to not be able to restrain them. Anyway, seeing as this collar is only 24 inches long (including the rings) that is kinda a moot point.
3. Rings
There are two rings on this collar and both of them are made of the same material as the collar itself. However, the rings are thicker than the links. While the links measure just 3 millimeters, the rings measure about 24 millimeters (1 inch).
Now, you can use either of the rings as a leash ring. How does it work? You’ll pass one end of the chain through the opposite end ring. The end you decide will be the receiving end should be determined by what side you’ll be leading your dog from.
If you’ll be leading with your left, after passing the chain through the ring, the collar should kinda look like a ‘P’. If your right, the collar should look kinda like a ‘9’.
This is important because you or your dog will be pulling on the collar and you want to be comfortable if this happens.
Is The Coastal Pet Products Choke Collar User Friendly?
Well, there is really nothing much to know in the handling of this collar. The operation of it is pretty cut and dry.
However, we are not very comfortable with the use of a choke collar. It just seems like an inhumane way of training a dog. There are other humane methods of and instruments that you can use in teaching your dog whatever you need to.
However (yes another however), if you feel you must use this collar, be sure that your personal trainer or veterinarian knows about it. We hope that they will be able to dissuade you from using it. But if they don’t, they should help you with the use. So tell them!

1. Durable
This collar is actually really strong and durable. It will take a lot to get this collar to break or fall apart. Most dogs are not strong enough.
The collar is also chrome coated so that it does not succumb to tarnish or rust. Additionally, the links are argon welded so that they neither fall apart nor break off.
2. Works
If choke collars are really your thing, you’ll like the Coastal Pet Products Choke Collar. It actually works in getting dogs to behave and stop pulling unnecessarily. But we still stick with the fact that there are humane methods that do the job well and maybe even better.

This collar is not a good idea for large dogs. It is too short and not thick enough to accommodate them.
Of course, we have to add that it is a choke collar. And yes, we consider that a con.

Now, aside having prongs that are supposed to dig into the wearer’s skin when it is pulled on, the Herm Sprenger Ultra-Plus Training Collar has something that our featured collar doesn’t. It can be adjusted.

Blueberry Pet Martingale Collar
Now, this is a training collar we consider humane. The reason is, there is a limit to how tight the collar can go and that is determined by the small loop. It is not like a choke collar that can just keep tightening forever.
And the Blueberry Pet Martingale Collar is as good a martingale as any. The entire length of the collar is made of nylon. There is no clasp on this one, though,
