The Hamilton Braided Choke Dog Collar is a product of the Hamilton brand. Hamilton is a company that produces stuff for different kind of animals.
We are not just talking pets here. Hamilton has something for your horses and basically any other animal you might own. Apparently, it believes in the use of a combination of strong materials, sturdy construction and innovative designs in the production of its stuff.
So when we see a Hamilton product, we expect to see all those in that one product. We could start our looking with the Hamilton Braided Choke Dog Collar.
The Hamilton Braided Choke Dog Collar is a choke collar. And for those that don’t already know, a choke collar is a training collar.
A choke collar is usually considered as one of the least humane training collars basically because it depends on being pulled tightly across the wearer’s neck to be what it is. For more information on choke collars, quickly go check this article. Back?

Who Can Wear The Hamilton Braided Choke Dog Collar?
The Hamilton Braided Choke Dog Collar is a really sensitive collar so you need to be careful who wears it. Puppies younger than 6 weeks shouldn’t be wearing any kind of choke collar. Their necks are still too sensitive.
Also, senior dogs, invalid dogs and pregnant and lactating dogs shouldn’t be wearing this collar too.
Now if your dog is neither of the above and you think he needs a choke and your veterinarian or dog trainer has given the go ahead, he should be good with this collar. Provided he finds it in his size.
At least, Hamilton agrees with us that this collar is not meant for small dogs because the smallest option is 10 inches. Other sizes are 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24 and the largest, 26 inches. All of them come in different width sizes.
Features Of The Hamilton Braided Choke Dog Collar
1. Material
It is made out of nylon. Which means, as much as a choke collar can be, this collar is quite soft. The idea is that when the collar is pulled across the wearer’s neck, it shouldn’t hurt, chaff or cause abrasions. Which is nice if you ask us.
The Hamilton Braided Choke Dog Collar is lightweight quite alright. But the durability of the thing is not something that we can be excited about. It isn’t the strongest collar you will get. So if you want to preserve the life of the collar, you’ll want to use it less frequently.
This collar is rounded and looks like a thin rope. So there are little or no chances that the collar will drag the wearer’s hair or get caught on something. This is good news if you have a long haired dog.
It comes in different colors, five of them actually. You have the black, blue, hot pink, purple and red.
Seeing as this collar is made of nylon, it then supposes that it can be worn in water and can also be washed without falling apart.
However, if you’re going to be tossing it in the machine, you’ll want to be careful about putting it in with other stuff. Because some of the colors bleed out. This also means that if your dog wears it in and around water the color could bleed on his fur. Just be careful generally.
2. Design
A ring is attached to each end of the Hamilton Braided Choke Dog Collar. Which means that there are two rings on this collar. One end of the collar passes through the other ring to form a loop with a tail.
The ring at the end of the tail is what your dog’s leash will be attached to. Both the rings are made of metal and should be good for a decent period of time.
The loop is passed through the head of the dog seeing as the collar does not have any kind of clasp. It also doesn’t have a tri glide. What this implies is that it can’t be adjusted.
This collar, like every other choke collar, has no limit to how tight it can get. As long as you pull on it, it gets tight. So, seeing as the life of your pet practically lies in your hands, be careful not to choke your dog.
A dog wearing the Hamilton Braided Choke Dog Collar should never be left unattended, especially when with other dogs.
This collar is meant to be worn in addition to your dog’s regular collar because, it does not have any provision to carry important information like your dog’s name and your address or phone number.
Is The Hamilton Braided Choke Dog Collar User Friendly?
It actually is. It is a simple collar that looks like a thin rope with one ring at either end. You won’t have issues figuring out what to do with this collar.
However, we still insist that your veterinarian or dog trainer be in the know. Not because you don’t know how to work the collar but because we would be more comfortable if a choke collar came recommended by a professional.
Pros Of The Hamilton Braided Choke Dog Collar
1. Comfortable
If there is one thing that we can give to this collar, it is that it is really soft and comfortable. And so when the collar is stationary, your dog should find it comfortable.
2. Design
We also like that this collar is rounded and so cannot tug or catch on hair. This makes it an OK choice for dogs who are long haired.
It is also a good thing that the Hamilton Braided Choke Dog Collar is lightweight. So that the wearer does not feel like he is being weighed down by so much burden.
Cons Of The Hamilton Braided Choke Dog Collar
First of all, we aren’t particularly comfortable with choke collars. We believe that there are more humane ways of training dogs than using a choke collar. But different strokes for different folks, yea?
In addition, some of the colors tend to bleed. So, probably try soaking the collar and see if the bleeding stops.
One more thing, this collar isn’t very durable. So you probably do not want to use it very frequently.
Alternative Options To The Hamilton Braided Choke Dog Collar
More Affordable Option
Dogs My Love Round Choke Collar
The Dogs My Love Round Choke Collar is like our featured collar in that it is rope like, made of nylon and is a choke collar. However, this collar costs a bit less than our featured collar.
Also, this collar has a little bit of leather work going on. The rings are not attached directly to the collar but to a ring base made of leather. It is the leather that is now attached to the collar.
Metal Option
The SGODA Chain Dog Collar is a choke collar but it is made out of copper unlike our featured collar. So, if metal is more your thing than nylon, this could be it. It also costs less than our featured collar.
Opposite Spectrum
Country Brook Martingale Dog Collar
Because we are not particularly comfortable with all the chokes going on, we have provided something we consider a more humane option, a martingale. The Country Brook Martingale Dog Collar is as good a martingale as any.
It is made of nylon and doesn’t feature a buckle. However, know that the Country Brook Martingale Dog Collar costs more than the other collars listed here. Check out this review for more information.
