Petiner seems to us to be a specifically dog product company. Basically what you’ll be seeing from Petiner are products like the Petiner Bark Control Collar. Collars that are supposed to help dogs learn proper behavior as regards barking.

Can Every Dog Wear The Petiner Bark Control Collar?
No, this collar is not for every dog. And the major reason for this is that it is a training collar. A dog who has no bark control problem has no need for this collar. Also, a dog who cannot, for some reason, be trained does not have any need for this collar.
However, because it is adjustable, the Petiner Bark Control Collar can fit a decent range of dog breeds. So if your dog is in need of training, you’ll probably be able to fit this collar around his neck.
Features Of The Petiner Bark Control Collar
1. The Transmitter
The transmitter is that black boxlike thing that is the nerve center of the collar. We refer to it as the nerve center because it is responsible for detecting the bark and preparing and administering the correction mode.
To detect the bark sound or sensation, this collar has a microprocessor that is supposed to pick up just your dog’s barks. It does that quite alright but it might be doing too good a job of it.
We say this because this collar has the tendency to administer corrections for basically any sound the wearer makes. So your dog could be, say, yawning and get zapped.
Now on the transmitter, you will notice two buttons. The buttons are actually for navigating through sensitivity levels. The idea behind the sensitivity levels is for you to decide how sensitive the collar gets to determining bark sensations.
There are 7 levels; one being the lowest and 7 the highest. So using the navigation buttons, you can decide how sensitive you want the collar to be which is usually dependent on dog breed and/or the environment.
You’ll also find a navigation dial. The navigation dial is what you’ll use to navigate through correction levels. Now, there are also 7 correction levels. The first is a mild warning tone and the second is more intense. The static shocks start at the third level and increases through the levels in intensity.
This is how it works. The first level engages when your dog first barks and the levels progress as long as he does. If he doesn’t bark in thirty seconds, the collar will reset itself to level one. But if he keeps barking through all the levels, the collar automatically shuts off for one minute.
2. Shock Electrodes
The shock electrodes are those tube-like things on the transmitter. They are actually what is responsible for sending the static shock to your dog’s neck. You shouldn’t be thinking of allowing these things touch your dog’s neck directly (we’re not even sure they are long enough).
This is why this collar comes with two pairs of rubber stoppers; one long pair and one short pair. The short pair should do just fine if your dog is short furred. However, if he is long furred, you’ll need something a bit longer, hence the long pair.
A short pair would be inadequate for a long haired dog and a long pair would be overkill for a short haired dog.
3. Strap
The strap of this collar is made of nylon and nylon usually means soft and durable. The strap is kinda one size fits all. It has a plastic tri glide which you are supposed to use to make the collar your dog’s exact fit.
This collar uses a plastic buckle which should be easy enough for you to get open. Both the tri glide and the buckle are plastic which makes them water safe to a nice enough extent.
4. Battery
The collar is powered by one regular alkaline battery that should be easy enough for you to find in your regular store.
Is The Petiner Bark Control Collar User Friendly?
Seeing as this collar is a training collar, we would have very much preferred for it to have come with a training manual. However, without this manual, the Petiner Bark Control Collar is relatively easy to operate.
It automatically works when the battery is inserted so that shouldn’t be a problem. You should, however, consult with your veterinarian and or dog trainer before you decide that bark collar is the way to go. They should also be able to help you with operating the collar.
Pros Of The Petiner Bark Control Collar
1. Sensitivity
We like that this collar allows you decide how sensitive you want it to be. Making the collar flexible. In environments where there will be other dogs barking, you can make the collar less sensitive so that it doesn’t pick up all those sounds.
2. Battery
We know that some dog parents don’t like a battery powered collars but you have to agree with us that the fact that the battery is a regular one is a plus. You don’t need to go on a scavenger hunt just to change batteries.
Cons Of The Petiner Bark Control Collar
We do not really like that a dog could get zapped for yawning or hiccuping. We would have liked this collar better if it had a better technique for picking up barks.
Also, it seems this collar picks the days it wants to work. Because sometimes it does what it is supposed to do and at other times it doesn’t. If you ever happen to have that issue you could change the battery and see if that helps.

We wouldn’t say the Petiner Bark Control Collar is the people’s favorite. It is definitely not good news that the collar does not work all the time.
