Who Can Wear The Hamilton Leather Dog Collar?
This dog collar comes in various sizes. The sizes vary according to length and width. For length, you have sizes ranging from 12 inches to 26 inches. And for width you have sizes 3/8 inch, ½ inch, ¾ inch and 1 inch.
This collar isn’t the most versatile seeing as 12 to 26 inches does not accomodate all dog sizes. But it could do.
Features Of The Hamilton Leather Dog Collar
1. Material
The Hamilton Leather Dog Collar is made of leather, as the name already implies. The leather is pretty tough and strong and should be able to stay so. Bear in mind, however, that this collar could be a bit stiff at the beginning.
With constant wear, though, your dog should be able to break it in and everybody should be fine. The first few times of wearing the collar (when it is still stiff), your dog might feel a little bit of discomfort. But it is not something to be alarmed about.
Now, the inside of this dog collar is not padded. However, it is soft enough that your dog should find it comfortable even if he wears it every day. Still, we think you might want to pay attention (at least the first couple of times your dog wears the collar). Especially if you have a short haired dog.
This collar comes in only two regular leather colors; black and burgundy. Hamilton advises that you order two sizes up when you order one.
2. Clasp
The Hamilton Leather Dog Collar uses a metal buckle as a clasp. The metal buckle happens to be something that you must have seen and actually operated before. There is the buckle head, the metal tongue and the adjustment holes on the strap.
3. D Ring
Aside the buckle, the only other metal thing is the D Ring. The D Ring is tacked into the collar securely so that it does not come off when it is pulled on. The D Ring is what you attach your dog’s leash to.
However, seeing as there is no provision for one to hang a dog tag on, you can use the D Ring. It might be obstructive when you have to pull on the leash. But you really do not have any other choice now.
We should also point out that the collar does not have a strap loop. What this means is that the D Ring will also have to function as a strap loop.
Is The Hamilton Leather Dog Collar User Friendly?
Most basic collars are user friendly and so is this collar. There is really no need for a training manual.
Pros Of The Hamilton Leather Dog Collar
1. Sturdy
The Hamilton Leather Dog Collar is pretty sturdy and durable. Though at the beginning it is probably too sturdy, it eventually loosens up and your dog should be fine with it.
2. Easy To Clean
We like that you don’t have to go to so much trouble to get this collar clean. Your dog can practically roll around in the mud and all you’ll have to do to restore its cleanliness is wipe it down with a little rag and a bit of leather cleaner.
Cons Of The Hamilton Leather Dog Collar
We think things would have been better if the burden on the D Ring was reduced a little bit. Maybe an actual strap loop would have done the trick or at least a tag loop. Just something that does not make the D Ring do so much.
We also think the Hamilton Leather Dog Collar could have had a more accurate sizing system. We agree that Hamilton warned that you order two sizes up. But we think reconstructing the sizing system is a better solution.
