Who Is The Four Paws Deluxe Double-Door Dog Crate?

When it comes to wire dog crates, like the Four Paws Deluxe Double-Door Dog Crate, the rule of thumb is to always restrict the use for relatively well-behaved dogs without behavioral problems. This, naturally precludes aggressive dogs, aggressive chewers, destructive pets and escape artists.

Now, when it comes to sizing, we love what Four Paws does on this crate. Not only did it make the regular sizes available like the extra small and the likes, but it also has sizes specific to puppies and toy breeds.

1. Single And Double Door Options

Four Paws offers this crate both in a single door and double door option. Of course, expectedly the single door option is more affordable. But for a few more bucks, you can buy the convenience of double doors.

If you’re confused about what door option to go for, don’t be. It’s actually quite simple.

If you don’t have so much to spare right now, go for the single door option. However, keep in mind that it comes a few inconveniences.

For instance, you won’t have the easy access that double doors would have given you. So, things like taking out your pup’s crate pad, cleaning up after an accident or replacing your pup’s water dispenser might be a little inconvenient.

Also, you’ll have to figure out the best spot to place your crate in such that the door is well placed. That is, in a position where you and your pup can access the crate conveniently.

In summary, multiple doors are a more convenient option.

NB: There’s no single door option for the “Toy” and “Puppy” sizes, though.

2. Removable, Leak-Proof Tray

This is supposed to help you catch accidents that could go down in the crate, if you know what we’re talking about. Without a tray in your crate, it’s going to be quite difficult to keep the crate in sanitary conditions. And let’s not forget about your expensive carpet as well.

Now, our only qualm with Four Paws as concerns the removable tray is that it is made of plastic which is not durable and also encourages bad chewing habits.

If you’ve got a chewy or teething pup, he will most likely find the plastic tray a fantastic chew toy. So, you’ll find yourself needing a new tray in no time.

Things change drastically when you swap out the plastic tray for a metal one. If not for anything, at least, you can be sure that it will last. And also, you know it won’t retain any flagrant odor.

3. Comes Collapsible

Like every other wire dog crate, the Four Paws Deluxe Double-Door Dog Crate can be collapsed into a smaller unit convenient for storage and travel.

So, if you need a dog crate that can come along with you and your pet on your next vacay, this can work. It will only take up a small space in your vehicle, and you’ll be able to carry it like a briefcase too.

4. Quad-Lock System

This crate comes with two locks each, something we consider a big advantage. Especially when circumstances make it impossible for you to keep a watchful eye on your pup all the time, it’s good to know that your pet is safe in his crate. Parents of clever pets will especially be grateful for the lock system here.

But then again, the locks here are a little too tough to use. Locking your pet crate should never be that tough.

5. Metal Wire Construction

There really isn’t much to mention here. The crate is made of metal wire and also comes with a finish to keep the metal from rusting over time.

All things being equal, this crate should be able to last you quite a long time especially if you follow our advice concerning the kind of dog breeds to put into the crate.

6. All Sizes Available Including “Toy” and “Puppy”

This crate comes in the 5 regular dog crate sizes (i.e. besides the intermediate size). There’s the extra small (24 inches), small (30 inches), medium (36 inches), large (42 inches), and extra-large (48 inches).

Now, in addition to these sizes, Four Paws also carries two special sizes (Toy and Puppy) which, although not novel, is definitely a plus.

7. Divider Panel Included

This crate comes with a divider panel which makes it easy to make your crate grow with your puppy. Puppies grow up really fast, especially the large breed ones. So, it’s always advisable to just get a crate in their adult size while you use the divider panel to manage space. It’s just more economical that way.

As its name suggests, it comes with 3 doors, one in front, another by the side, and for the kill, one on top.

The top door is really nifty because it makes it easy for you to access the crate when you need to do a few things. Things like lifting your puppy in (when you absolutely have to), taking out his food bowl, or throwing in a blankie are made easier with a top door.

Also, there are two doors which makes the crate easy to access. And the lockable wheels make the crate easy to move around. They also make the crate safe as well since you can lock two of the wheels into position such that the crate doesn’t roll off on its own.

What Customers Are Saying About The Four Paws Deluxe Double-Door Dog Crate?

Most customers are satisfied with the Four Paws Deluxe Double-Door Dog Crate. It offers great value for money, and generally works good.

We won’t say that customers thought it to be exceptional though. It’s just a regular dog crate that does what it’s supposed to.

However, the doors are probably the customers’ worst feature on the crate. It’s not like the door isn’t secure. But the quad lock system is a bit frustrating at least and a lot annoying at worst. Most people just wish the latches were a little easier to use.

Our Verdict

There’s nothing exceptional about the Four Paws Deluxe Double-Door Dog Crate. It’s just a regular, everyday crate that does what it is supposed to do. It will serve well, and so far, there aren’t many complaints of dogs breaking out of this crate.

Even though the locks are a bit difficult to engage and disengage, the quad lock system keeps the crate secure enough for your pup. And we can’t say we hate it, seriously.

So, altogether, if you need a crate where you get what you pay for, the Four Paws Deluxe Double-Door Dog Crate willl work just fine.
