Cruising Companion Carry Me Pet Crate — Detailed Review

Cruising Companion Casual Canine Carry Me Crate Small Orange

The Cruising Companion Carry Me Pet Crate seems to be made by no one. We looked all over for the brand on the internet but met stumbling blocks all around.

If this fact gets you worried, you’re not the only one. It got us worried too.

So, since we could not find any info on the brand itself, we decided to check out how the brand’s products are doing in the market.

Well, the brand is doing so so. It doesn’t seem to be receiving a wide range of patronage, and products which the brand has managed to sell do not seem to be faves among many customers.

Interestingly, the brand does carry a lot of pet products besides dog crates, though. For instance, it also carries pet organizers, pet fanny packs, car seat covers, hammock seat covers, car harnesses, and pet travel bowls.

We are set to take a closer look into its Cruising Companion Carry Me Pet Crate to find out if it’s worth buying. It’s not looking good from here, we must say. But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s check out this crate in detail.

Who Is The Cruising Companion Carry Me Pet Crate For?

This crate is so flimsy, we don’t even know whom to recommend this crate to. Maybe for the trash, and this is not us trying to be anything. The crate is just really bad. You’ll probably even receive this damaged. It’s not totally impossible.

We guess it’s supposed to be a pet carrier and all. But there are only very, in fact, too few people who have been able to use this well. The rest threw this in the trash.

So, who is the Cruising Companion Carry Me Pet for? In all honesty, we can’t say.

Features Of The Cruising Companion Carry Me Pet Crate For?

1. Portability

Well, the Cruising Companion Carry Me Pet Crate is actually lightweight, and we aren’t surprised because this crate is pretty flimsy. It would have been very easy to carry this crate around if only it worked.

It comes with a handle though which was supposed to make the crate really easy to carry around conveniently.

But oh well, it doesn’t even work. So, we guess, this feature is somewhat moot.

2. Plastic Construction

In the words of Cruising Companion or whatever brand is behind this crate, this crate was designed to last. The brand says that it made this crate from durable, long-lasting plastic.

Well, we don’t know if Cruising Companion sincerely thought that this is made from durable plastic because that statement is obviously very fallacious.

The crate shows a very poor construction on every part. We’re almost sure that when you get the crate and see its fragile construction, you won’t even let your pet get into it.

A couple of customers complained that the crate fell apart at the seams the moment they brought it out to assemble it.

So, for construction, the Cruising Companion Carry Me Pet Crate fails woefully.

3. Seat Belt Cutout

Well, we will hand it to the Cruising Companion Carry Met Pet Crate for this feature. The cutout for a seat belt makes this crate really easy for travel.

If all things went well, this seat belt would have been a safety feature for this crate. The cutouts are supposed to allow you pass seatbelts through the crate. And with this feature, you can help to keep your dog safe as you travel.

So, on this count, we will say this brand was quite thoughtful.

4. Top Vents

Like all hard-sided crates, plastic crates usually come with vents to allow air into the crate so your pet can feel comfortable.

This crate comes with vents on the top part of the crate. So, if this crate holds up for you, you can be sure that your pet will be getting enough ventilation to keep them comfortable.

5. Different Color Options Available

The Cruising Companion Carry Me Pet Crate comes in several color options. So, the fashion-forward pet parent has quite a number of options to pick from.

The crate comes in 4 different colors which include: blue, green, orange, and pink.

Cruising Companion says you can pick any color that suits your personality or that of your dog. We wish the brand just made this crate even manageable, at least. Then we would have been able to choose colors.

6. Available Sizes

The Cruising Companion Carry Me Pet Crate comes in only two sizes which are the small and the medium. So, if it works, only small to medium pets would find accommodation in this crate.

What We Like About The Cruising Companion Carry Me Pet Crate

1. We like the fact that this crate comes with cutouts for a seat belt. It would keep your pet safe in this crate while traveling in your car, however bumpy the ride gets.

2. We guess, for a few customers for whom this pet crate worked, it was pretty easy to assemble.

What We Didn’t Like About The Cruising Companion Dog Crate

1. This crate is super flimsy. It is so low quality, we are not sure we want you to trust your pet in this crate.

2. The door which is supposed to keep your pet safe and secure is also flimsy. It hardly stays on and so can’t even keep your crate closed.

3. In fact, the pegs that are supposed to keep the door attached are cheaply made and very chewable too.

4. The latches on this crate are bad and quite difficult to even work with.

5. It also comes with a really horrible plastic smell with it.

6. We feel this crate is overpriced for all the crappy features it comes with.

Alternatives To The Cruising Companion Carry Me Pet Crate

Tougher Option – The Petmate Remington Ruff Maxx Kennel

Petmate Ruffmaxx Travel Carrier Outdoor Dog Kennel 360-degree Ventilation Almond/Green 6 sizes

The Petmate Remington Ruff Maxx Kennel is made of heavy-duty plastic, so it’s going to last. The door is also quite good so it will definitely keep your pet safe.

Plus, it is really easy to assemble and comes with 360-degree ventilation which makes the crate really comfy for any pet.

In fact, if you need something that is also adaptable for airline travel, this could also work. However, Petmate still advises that you still consult with the airline before you take this on your next travel.

Secure Doors — The Aspen Pet Traditional Kennel

Aspen Pet Traditional Kennel, 20"

The Aspen Pet Traditional Kennel is great for escape artists. First of all, it is really well made and so it is quite durable.

The door is super secure thanks to the lock system used on this crate.

There’s just a single door here. However, the latch used is a squeeze latch that requires a thumb to open.

Truthfully, this crate would take quite some getting used to when it comes to closing and opening the crate. But, at least, we are confident that your pet would be safe here. Plus, Houdini pet or not, your dog will not be able to open this crate unaided.

Better Value — The AmazonBasics Two-Door Top-Load Pet Kennel

AmazonBasics 19-Inch Two-Door Top-Load Pet Kennel

Being such a low-quality crate, we think that the Cruising Companion Carry Me Pet Crate is quite overpriced. If you need something that offers you better value for money, then you want to check out the AmazonBasics Two-Door Top-Load Pet Kennel.

It is very affordable, although it only comes in two sizes which tend towards the small size. This crate is well made and comes with two doors. There’s one that conveniently opens either way and another one right on the top panel. The doors are also pretty secure too.

The unit is also very well ventilated, so your pet will definitely feel comfortable here.

Fashion-Forward Option — The Petmate Compass Plastic Pets Kennel

So, we saw this really beautiful plastic crate that we think fashion-forward pet parents would love — the Petmate Compass Plastic Pets Kennel. It looks really pretty and the colors are just right.

It does not come in different color options, but the one finish (pearl white and black) it comes in looks really sophisticated. Plus, the door is also finished in chrome.

Besides looks, this is a crate you can trust as it is of high quality and it is quite durable too.

There are also all kinds of crates in this product line to accommodate dogs between the size of 10 pounds and 90 pounds.

What Customers Are Saying About The Cruising Companion Carry Me Pet Crate?

It’s not good. There are way too many complaints on this crate and it’s enough to get any pet parent worried.

First of all, it is so flimsy. Loads of comments were flying around the customer comment space about the crate being cheap, low quality, and flimsy.

Plus, many customers were also worried about their pet’s safety in this crate seeing as the door is practically useless. In fact, the poor quality of the door was the chief complaint. The doors hardly stayed on for many customers.

And even the pegs that the makers added to make the door stay on were useless. Being made of cheap plastic too, they either just broke off altogether, or in some other cases, the dog chewed it off.

In fact, a customer who used this as a pet carrier while taking her pet to the vet explained her experience with the crate thus. Apparently, they were on their way to the vet when the door burst open and her pooch slipped out! That’s scary.

Another customer just took out the door altogether and converted the crate to a bed. Good for them! At least, they were able to make lemonade out of Cruising Companion’s lemons.

But we won’t be totally honest if we don’t mention that quite a few customers found some use to the crate as a crate. There were several customers who despite the bad reviews got the crate and found that it worked for them.

So, if you want to, you could take your chance too and maybe it would work for you.

Our Verdict

Our verdict? We do not like this crate and there is no nice way to put this. It’s just too low quality. Wait, does this even come with a door? The way it keeps popping off its attachment, we’re not sure it does.

We are not confident in the durability of this crate at all.

But then again, there were people for whom this crate worked. So, there’s always that slim chance that it might work for you.

In the end to choose or not to choose is entirely up to you. But for us over here, it’s a no.
