Downtown Pet Supply Prong Collar — Honest Review

Downtown Pet Supply Deluxe Adjustable Prong Training Collar with Quick Release, No-Choke Pinch Collar is Safe and Effective, Chrome-Plated for Maximum Strength, Will Not Rust or Break (Chrome, Large)

Downtown Pet Supply, the creator of the Downtown Pet Supply Prong Collar, is a pet company that considers itself primarily as a company of pet owners before it is a company of profit makers. In other words, it puts quality ahead of profit-making.

It stresses that it makes all its products itself and so will stand behind everything that bears the Downtown Pet Supply tag. Its range of products is pretty wide and includes such things as grooming equipment, training equipment, toys and such.

The Downtown Pet Supply Prong Collar is just one out of Downtown Pet Supply’s different types of training equipment and specifically training collars. This collar is a prong collar that is meant to cause a bit of discomfort as a deterrent whenever your dog is doing something he should not.

In our review, we lay out all the features of this collar so you can make an informed buying decision.

Features Of The Downtown Pet Supply Prong Collar

1. Design

This is made of metal like most prong collars are wont to. There are two parts to the collar; the main collar out of which the prongs protrude and the chain link.

The main collar, as we earlier said, contains the prongs. The prongs are slightly bent inwards and flat on the surface. So, you pull on it when your dog does something he shouldn’t. Don’t worry, the points are not sharp and so wouldn’t pierce just cause some discomfort enough to deter your dog.

It is chrome coated which ensures that it doesn’t rust or tarnish even in water or in the rain.

For adjustments, you simply remove or add more links as needed. Nevertheless, please ensure that the collar is not too close to your dog’s neck so it’s not uncomfortable for your dog.

2. Chain Loop

Attached to the main collar of the Downtown Pet Supply Prong Collar is a chain loop. Now, this chain loop is what ensures that this collar does not choke the wearer. It is made of the same material as the main collar but does not feature any prong.

However, there is another variant of this collar that does not feature a chain loop. Rather what you have is a nylon connecting style thing. So, the nylon holds a buckle and a D Ring and connects the two ends of the collar together.

3. Clasp And Leash Ring

Now, the Downtown Pet Supply Prong Collar that is totally made out of metal uses a metal clip as a clasp. This clip is hooked on the chain loop. You work it by pinching the clip open and hooking or unhooking it from the chain loop, depending on what you want to do exactly.

The other variant of this dog collar actually has a quick-release plastic buckle and so should release quickly.

Now both types have a D Ring. The all-metal collar has its D Ring at the end of the chain loop. While the metal nylon combo collar has its D Ring close to the buckle. That D Ring is sewn right into the collar and should be there for a decent period of time.

Is The Downtown Pet Supply Prong Collar User-Friendly?

The Downtown Pet Supply Prong Collar is pretty easy to figure out. All you really need to do is pull on the collar and it practically does the work itself.

However, we would really like for your veterinarian and or dog trainer to have given their consent before you decide to go for this collar. Because this collar is sensitive and they are in the right place to tell you if your dog needs it or not.

Cons Of The Downtown Pet Supply Prong Collar

1. The clasp on the all metal collar isn’t easy to operate. You could even end up pinching yourself with the clip in a bid to get it open and or close.

2. We think the Downtown Pet Supply Prong Collar would have been more comfortable if the prongs came with rubber stoppers. But maybe that isn’t the idea.
