A good place to start our review of the Expawlorer Collapsible Dog Crate is the brand. You know, as they say, an apple never falls too far from the tree. So, who or what exactly is Expawlorer?
Well, apparently, the brand doesn’t have its own site. And we searched everywhere, trust us. But then we did find their page on Facebook. So, we’re just going to have to work with that.
It’s the mission of the company to provide its customer with high-performance dog products and to serve those products with great customer service as well, which are targeted at helping dogs and their owners enjoy the outdoors more.
Currently, this brand has a small following on Facebook with about 165 followers. And on retail sites, the brand seems to be doing well. It has a large offering of all kinds of dog products and these products also seem to be raking in pretty high ratings among customers.
With that out of the way, let’s get to the meat of today’s article.
Who Is The Expawlorer Collapsible Dog Crate For?
This is a soft dog crate so it goes without saying that your purchasing the Expawlorer Collapsible Dog Crate means your dog is well trained. Metal dog crates are not beyond the destructive capabilities of even average dogs. So, definitely, you can expect that many dogs can make mincemeat of a soft crate.
But that said, this is a pretty solid dog crate, at least, when we talk about soft crates. If you need something for your pup to recuperate in or something, this works. This also works as a comfy living unit for elderly dogs.
You’ll also find that this crate makes an excellent travel crate whether it is for camping or for any other outdoor adventure.
Lastly, this crate comes in only two sizes, and both sizes tend toward the small and medium-sized dogs. There are the 20-inch and the 28-inch crates only.
Features Of The Expawlorer Collapsible Dog Crate
Now, all we know about the material is that Expawlorer describes the material used to make this crate as fabric. But we aren’t exactly privy to what material exactly is used here. But then the stitching is also pretty good so it makes this crate as durable as needed.
Of course, this comes with frames. And from all reports, the steel frames are also sturdy enough to keep your crate firm on the ground. But regardless, this crate remains easy to fold down and easy to set up as well.
Still, this is a soft crate so don’t expect it to hold up under extreme conditions. Of course, extreme conditions are mostly a destructive dog’s bad habits. So, be careful with this crate.
All the same, because the crate is made of fabric, it’s also lightweight. So, it should be lightweight enough to carry about without issue.
Plus, the material is also machine washable, and this makes the Expawlorer Collapsible Dog Crate a little easier to clean. You’ll only have to take off the crate cover and toss it into the machine and then kickback.
The Expawlorer Collapsible Dog Crate is a convenient crate for travel. And there are several factors that make this work. For one, the material used here is pretty lightweight. So, it’s not heavy to move around.
Plus, this unit also comes with handles, and this adds to the portability of this crate. The handles are also convenient to use as well.
Be that as it may, though, this is one large-sized crate. Some customers actually did find that their cars were a bit too small to fit this crate into conveniently. So, if you’re going to be taking this on trips with you, that’s one factor you might want to consider.
The Expawlorer Collapsible Dog Crate comes with a crate pad. Now, this crate pad is actually more pad than mat and so it isn’t exactly comfy for sleeping.
Yes, it is made of a foam pad and the pad is covered in a machine-washable fleece material. Ordinarily, this should be plush and all. Nonetheless, this pad is still quite hard to the tushie, guys. No royal treatment here at all.
In fact, it might be much better if you just changed out the crate pad altogether. We aren’t exactly sure this pad will be comfy enough for your dog, especially seniors, and recuperating dogs.
Windows and Doors
The Expawlorer Collapsible Dog Crate comes with three mesh windows which help to improve airflow around your dog’s crate. Plus, the fabric is light so it will also allow air to flow into the crate adequately.
Windows here are mesh. However, the problem is mesh isn’t exactly heavy duty. Worse still, the ones on this crate are particularly weak, sorta. So, there’s a huge chance that your pet will have the crate destroyed with their paws and claws.
In fact, there were actually a couple of complaints about that from customers.
As for the doors, there are two doors to this crate. There’s one in the front of the crate as usual. And then there’s another right on top of the crate with a zipper of course.
Multiple entries are always a plus as you already know. So, on that score, this crate does well.
2 Sizes Available
You’ll only find this crate in two sizes which are the 20-inch crate and the 28-inch crate. These are sizes for the small and medium-sized dogs.
And while there was an isolated complaint about the height of the crate being too short for their pets to enjoy sufficient room, others are cool with this crate. They confirm that there is enough room in the crate for their pet to comfortably stay in.
The Expawlorer Collapsible Dog Crate comes in only one color which is Green. And there’s this super cute paw print design on the side of the crate too!

Alternatives To The Expawlorer Collapsible Dog Crate
More Affordable Option – The 2Pet Foldable Dog Crate
This is a more affordable dog crate if the Expawlorer Collapsible Dog Crate is a bit out of reach. The difference between both crates, price-wise, isn’t so wide, though.
It’s easy to use and has about the same features as our featured product. The 2Pet Foldable Dog Crate also comes in a variety of colors and sizes too. So, here’s a pretty sweet deal, if you ask us.
Higher End Option – The Expawlorer Collapsible Dog Crate 24 Inches To 48 Inches
Expawlorer also carries a crate that is higher-end than our featured product (about twice the price of our featured product). Now, let’s see what exactly this crate brings to the table.
First off, this comes with more size options than our featured product. There are sizes here all the way from 24 inches to 40 inches. So, if you hoped to get a soft crate for your large breed, you can try this crate instead of our featured product.
But just like our featured product, this crate only comes in one color which is grey. However, it comes with more windows, and auto-lock zippers.
Metal Crate Option – The Midwest Ovation Dog Crate
Check out this super-convenient, really high-quality metal dog crate – the Midwest Ovation Dog Crate.
Now there’s one unique thing about the Midwest Ovation Dog Crate, and that is its convenient door. It comes with a garage-style which makes the crate easy to access. Plus, it’s a really good choice if you’re managing a tight space. Since the door doesn’t swing, you won’t be needing so much door space.
And to make it even more convenient, this crate comes with options. There is the single door option and the double door option as well. But don’t worry, even if you go with the single door option, you still get the garage door option.
Hard-Sided Crate Option – The Aspen Pet Traditional Kennel
Lastly, you can check out the Aspen Pet Traditional Kennel if you need a hard-sided dog crate that works for your pet. It is cozy enough to keep your pet happy and it also comes with enough vents to ensure a 360-degree ventilation throughout the crate.
It comes with a handle for carrying and a squeeze latch door that most dogs, even Houdini dogs, cannot manipulate.
If you need something to travel with, this crate suffices for the most part. However, Aspen still recommends that you check with the airline company before bringing the crate along with you.
It comes in only 3 sizes, though which are for mostly small to somewhat medium dog breeds. The crate also comes pretty moderately priced too.

What Are Customers Saying About The Expawlorer Collapsible Dog Crate?
From what customers are saying about this crate, it is easy to deduce that this is a high-quality crate. At least most customers agree with that fact. However, some customers had their reservations, claiming that the crate got destroyed faster than they would have liked.
Now, in defense of the brand, no bias or anything, this is a soft crate for crying out loud. And people have got to understand that. You don’t give a soft crate to a large, energetic dog and expect it to last. It’s just not done.
Now, as for the crate pad, it was a universal consensus that the quality of the pad was whack! The crate pad feels cheap and low quality. In fact, a certain customer did complain that after throwing it into the washing machine, the entire thing fell apart.
And since we are on comfort, most customers agree that this is a roomy and spacious unit. So, on the average, dogs (and cats) felt comfortable in this crate.
However, we did notice an isolated complaint that the door came in lower than expected. And the dog in question ended up disliking his crate because the door kept grating on his nerves, or his head to be precise.
In all, customers love this crate and the morale here is generally high. But then many look forward to seeing more color variations and maybe a seat belt hole too.
We like the Expawlorer Collapsible Dog Crate, that’s for sure. Is it perfect? Definitely not. But then again, the crate never promised to be.
We agree with the customers on most things concerning this crate. It is made from high-quality fabric, comes with multiple entries, and is also easy to maintain as well.
We could change a few things here though, like make the mesh windows stronger and even throw out the crappy crate pad.
But we can’t deny that we love how easy this is to fold up and set up. Plus that cute paw design on the side as well is something we couldn’t get over too.
In the end, this is a good product. And we are definitely impressed by what Expawlorer was able to do here on this crate.
