PayLessHere 2-Door Folding Dog Crate — In-Depth Review

48" 2 Doors Pet Folding Suitcase Dog w/Divider Cat Crate Cage Kennel w/Tray

The PayLessHere 2-Door Folding Dog Crate is a dog crate carried by discount store – Pay Less Here. And Pay Less Here is a discount retail store that retails all kinds of merchandise at discount prices.

Without further ado, let’s get on with the review.

Who Is The PayLessHere 2-Door Folding Dog Crate For?

Well, the brand states it clearly – this crate is for crate-trained dogs only, even though the crate is described as made from high-tensile strength wire gauge.

You need to be careful if you’re using this with an aggressive dog or an escape artist (here’s a better option). If you must use this crate with such dogs, then it is important for you to make sure that your dog is under supervision.

This only comes in the 48-inch size. So, it’s only for the large to extra large breeds. And you can also use this for puppies of large breeds while they grow into their crate. There’s a divider panel.

Features Of The PayLessHere 2-Door Folding Dog Crate

1. Metal Construction

This is a wire dog crate. So, it’s made of metal. Well, according to the brand, it isn’t just made of metal, it’s made of a high tensile-strength wire gauge wire.

Sadly, the metal wires are so thin, it will take absolutely nothing for a puppy or a chewer to chew his way out of this thing.

And what really baffles us is that this crate is supposed to be for a large breed. Large breeds are known to be rambunctious with boundless energy rings around them. So, we wonder why PayLessHere chose to go for material so flimsy.

Lastly, this comes with an epoxy coating finish. This should help to keep your crate rust-free and in mint condition too for as long as possible. Hopefully, your dog hasn’t destroyed the crate before “long as possible” comes.

2. Double Doors

For utmost convenience, this crate comes with two doors. So, the crate will be really easy to access. Although they give the escape artist more ideas, double doors are also great for your pet too. They can use one door as an entrance and the other as an exit.

As to the locks… This comes with a double-lock system, i.e. two locks for each door.

And it would seem like the locks are a pain for some people as they find it easy to engage and disengage. Maybe it’s a matter of breaking in or anything, but there’s that off chance that you might experience this too.

It wasn’t a universal complaint though, so there might be nothing to fear. But we thought you should know.

Now, do the locks work?

Well, yes and no. Yes, if your dog is lazy and will never try to escape. And no, if your dog has all the tricks in the book for crate escapement.

We guess that explanation puts things in perspective.

3. Divider Panel

Large breeds are known to grow to a very large size and in a relatively short time. So, more than other sized breeds, parents of large-sized breeds need to get a crate in their pup’s adult size.

It makes more economic sense, especially if the crate comes with a divider which you can use to manage the space according to his size per stage and season.

Thankfully, this crate comes with a divider panel. So, that’s an obvious advantage.

4. Plastic Pan Included

This crate comes with a plastic pan to help catch spills from water bowls or “accidental” spills. Also, with its integrated lip, this pan will help to ensure that nothing spills out of the crate onto the floor.

Now, you’ve got to be very careful with this crate. One, we are naturally skeptical about plastic pans. Secondly, there were a few complaints about the plastic pan breaking after a bit.

So, be careful, and get a metal removal pan instead.

5. Foldable

This is a collapsible crate and it folds into something like a suitcase. Now, because this crate is somewhat flimsy, it does have one advantage and that is that the crate is lightweight to carry around.

It folds into a structure that’s only 3 inches thick and comes with a handle to make carrying convenient.

So, on this aspect, this crate does well. But then again, you can hardly get it wrong on this aspect too.

Cons Of The PayLessHere 2-Door Folding Dog Crate

1. Locks are difficult to engage and disengage for the first few months of use.

2. The crate feels pretty flimsy.

3. Latches are also cheap, flimsy, and won’t keep most dogs safely contained without any chance of escape.

4. The plastic pan included might not last very long.

Alternative Options

Sturdier Option – Petco Premium 2-Door Dog Crate

Petco Premium 2-Door Dog Crate, 24" L x 18" W x 19" H, Small, Black

If you need something that’s sturdier than this crate, then check out the Petco premium 2-Door Dog Crate. The metal construction is actually much sturdier than most crates we have come across.

So, we can assure you that your dog won’t easily break out of this crate. And it’s going to remain really durable for as long as.

But be careful with the latches though. The latches are still a little flimsy. But since we hardly find sturdy wire crates these days, we commend Petco for this, at least. Baby steps.

Better Lock System – Precision Triple-Door Great Crate Elite

Petmate Triple-Door Great Crate Elite, by Precision

The locks on the precision Triple-Door Great Crate Elite aren’t 100% secure but it is much better than whatever you have on the PayLessHere 2-Door Folding Dog Crate.

And the 5-point lock system (which does only little in all honesty), actually helps the whole lock system a bit too.

Its triple doors are also an added advantage since you’ll have convenient access to your crate anytime.

Hard-Sided Option – Aspen Pet Traditional Kennel

Aspen Pet Traditional Kennel, 20"

You could check out the Aspen Pet Traditional Kennel. It’s great for shy dogs and can also double as a pet carrier.

The crate only comes in sizes for small breeds though. But green parents should be excited to know that this is made from recycled plastic.

It’s well ventilated, comes with a single door that opens either way, and can also be used for airline travel too.

Soft Crate Option – 2Pet Foldable Dog Crate

Sometimes, some people prefer a soft dog crate for different reasons. Whatever your reason for needing a soft dog crate, you need a good one.

This is a pretty decent crate for the money. It’s completely affordable. And it comes with a nice handle that makes the crate also usable as a pet carrier.

This crate comes in various sizes too that range from small to medium. And there are different colors as well to pick from too.

What Customers Are Saying About The PayLessHere 2-Door Folding Dog Crate

Customers seem to be of the opinion that this is quite the flimsy crate. Although some justify the flimsiness of this crate by its affordability.

Also, the latches seem to be giving a few people some headache. It seems a lot of customers required a bit of a learning curve learning to lock and unlock their crate.

But besides that, the crate was the right size for many with room enough to accommodate their pooch in comfort.

Well, there were also a few teeny complaints about the pan included in the crate. Some say it’s noisy (probably didn’t engage the pan with the integrated lip properly). Others say the crate isn’t very durable.

But like we said, the major complaint was the flimsiness. But it seemed like loads of customers were willing to forgive the brand because of the crate’s size and affordability.

Our Verdict

Yes, the crate is affordable and that is nice. But what’s the point making the crate affordable and then skimping on quality only for the crate to get destroyed in no time? At the end of the day, your effort to save on cash becomes pointless since you’d either have to fix the old crate or buy a new one.

Might we remind you that both are pretty pricey options?

So, for us, the affordability of this crate doesn’t make us forgive its flimsiness. Especially since this is majorly targeted at large breeds, it should have been stronger.

And then the locks too… No, not working for us. This crate could have been a lot better.

For us, the PayLessHere 2-Door Folding Dog Crate is decent but if we were to describe the crate in one word, it would be “meh”.
