Hence, the reason you find products like treats and training bags, dog raincoats, boots, and toys.
Now, back to the raincoat on our hands today, We will first be addressing a very important question.
Table of Contents
Who Can Use The Outward Hound Designer Dog Raincoat?
Fine question. To answer this, we look at what sizes this dog raincoat is available in.
As at the time of this review, this dog raincoat only comes in three sizes;
- Small.
- Medium.
- Large.
These are very general sizes and have large gaps between them. Owing to this, there is a high possibility that your dog won’t be able to use this dog raincoat.
However, the manufacturers may be willing to produce other sizes.
With that in mind, what you need to do is to measure your dog’s back-length, chest girth, and neck girth properly.
Then proceed to check with the company if you can get a size that fits.
If they don’t have one for your dog, you can head on to the section of this article that says “alternative options”.
Hopefully, one of the other products we recommend fit your pooch.
Features Of The Outward Hound Designer Dog Raincoat
1. Material
The producers did not specify what this dog raincoat was made of, and we don’t want to assume.
However, we can still give certain characteristics of the material based on feedback gotten from people who have used this product.
The first and most important characteristic of this dog raincoat is that it is water-resistant.
Another characteristic the material of this dog raincoat is that it is lightweight. This is both a bad thing and a good thing as you would soon see:
a.) Why Lightweight Is Good
It’s good because when the material is lightweight, the raincoat is lightweight. When the raincoat is lightweight, it is easy to pack and carry about.
This means that if you want something you can use when you go on trips and you don’t have enough space, this would be good.
It’s also good because lightweight means it will dry fast. Materials like this — unlike thick materials like cotton and fleece — dry pretty easily.
This means that, if it’s raining nonstop where you live, say for a week or more, you can easily wash this and it will dry through the night.
b.) Why Lightweight Is Not Good
It does not provide your dog with any warmth, that’s why.
When it is raining, the accompanying winds usually cause a cold.
If your dog is not built to withstand such low temperatures, or perhaps, injury or sickness cannot make him do so properly, then this is a huge problem.
It is important that the comfort of your dog be taken into utmost consideration. If he isn’t good with low temperatures, get him another dog raincoat that will keep him dry and warm.
2. Color
This dog raincoat is available in 2 different color patterns; blue and grey, red and black (we removed the confusing names of colors like “elephant” and “java” to give you a proper idea of what it looks like).
Well, none of these colors is really functional.
However, if we had to pick one, we would definitely pick the first one because of the blue (which is sky blue, actually).
That is because, sky blue is easier to see in the dark than the other colors present in the dog raincoat.
That said, we would like to point out that, on the grounds of visibility, this dog raincoat does not pass.
Why?
Most of the colors used are dark, and that makes it difficult to see when it’s dark. More importantly, there is no reflective stripe.
A reflective stripe reflects the little light that bounces off of it in the dark, making your dog more visible.
If you read through our article on dog raincoats, you would fully understand why your dog raincoat has to have high-visibility.
In case you skipped it, here is the article on dog raincoats again. You’re welcome.
Pros Of The Outward Hound Designer Dog Raincoat
1. Comes With A Leash Access Hole
This dog raincoat comes with a leash access hole which allows you to pass your leash through to your dog’s collar or harness.
This way, you would be able to use this raincoat to take your dog on a walk. Really convenient if you ask us.
Without this hole or anything to hook your leash to, the raincoat would practically be useless, because then, you wouldn’t be able to use the raincoat during walks.
What is a raincoat if it can only be used indoors where there is covering?
Cons
1. Velcro Straps Are Not Good Enough
A lot of people complained about the Velcro straps on this dog raincoat.
Their complaints ranged from the Velcro being too short and tight to being made of cheap materials and coming off easily.
The conclusion about the Velcro straps on this dog raincoat from customer feedback is that, if you eventually do get this product, you would have to change all the Velcro straps yourself.
Unless, perhaps, you get lucky and it comes good enough for you.
2. Too Difficult To Put On
When you have a dog that is quite stubborn and does not like to put on clothes, you want something that is easy and takes minimal time to put on.
This dog raincoat doesn’t provide you with that ease. There are three different places to strap in when you get this dog raincoat on.
You’ll find a neck strap, belly strap, and leg strap. A little too much if you ask us.
