With that said, let’s look at the product we have for today, the Lifeunion Dog Backpack.

Who Can Wear The Lifeunion Dog Backpack?

Any dog can wear the Lifeunion Dog Backpack. In theory, all dogs can use this backpack, as long as there is a size available that fits them. However, one thing we always advise is that you see your vet before getting your dog a backpack. Only your vet will be able to determine if it’s good for him or not considering his age, health status, etc.

If your vet has given you the go-ahead, then you need to stick with us as we go through the features, which includes the sizes available and how to pick the right size.

What Are The Features Of The Lifeunion Dog Backpack?

The features of the Lifeunion Dog Backpack include the following:

  • Made of water-resistant polyester material.
  • Available in four different colors: blue, green, orange, and red.
  • Each dog backpack comes with four reflective stripes.
  • Comes with two straps.
  • Also comes with a handle.

1. Material

This backpack is made with polyester material. Polyester is mainly used to make dog raincoats, but it’s used in making this particular backpack.

Straight out of that fact, we can tell that polyester is a water-resistant material. Quite an oversell from the manufacturers because they called this waterproof, polyester is not waterproof. Also, a backpack with zips and stitch holes cannot be waterproof.

But anyway, polyester is quite tough, and durable. What that means is that this backpack would be able to power through tough terrains without getting torn or ripped.

Another material used in making this is “sandwich air net”, that’s just a fancy name for net-like polyester material. What this does is that it makes the backpack breathable, allowing for air to get to your dog properly. This is particularly helpful for when the trail gets hot.

2. Color And Reflective Stripes

With this backpack, you are spoilt for choices. There are four different colors available which you can choose from. They include blue, green, orange, and red colors.

The great thing about these colors is that they are all very functional. Functional in the sense that they are all bright, high-visibility colors. The backpack also comes with 4 reflective stripes. Reflective stripes are pieces of fabric that glow in the dark. Why we put it alongside color is because both those features work together to provide good visibility.

3. A Handle And Straps

This backpack comes with a handle on top of the backpack and two straps.

The handle on top, although looks like it, is not for lifting the dog. If you do that, you’ll be putting too much pressure on his ribcage. Also, the handle might break mid-air, sending your dog crashing to the ground, which can never be a good thing.

Rather, the handle is there to help you control your dog quickly. You know, minor things like dragging him away from danger, or keeping him from chasing a squirrel.

There are two straps, the first is a cross-chest strap. What that means is that you have two straps that come through his shoulders and his chest, joined by another coming from underneath his chest.

The second strap just runs across his under-belly. The cross-chest strap provides good weight distribution as it resembles the way we humans carry our own backpacks. Also, together with the under-belly strap, it keeps the backpack from slipping.

What Are The Benefits Of The Lifeunion Dog Backpack?

The following are benefits of the Lifeunion Dog Backpack:

  • The Lifeunion Dog Backpack is easy to adjust.
  • The backpack is also highly visible which is great when going on a trail in the dark.

1. Adjustability

One thing that all backpacks must have is adjustability. On that regard, this backpack goes a step further. Because of the way the straps were designed (cross-chest strap and underbelly strap), you have maximum room for adjustability on this backpack.

This makes it easy for it to fit your pooch perfectly. Also, it helps weight distribution, since you can easily adjust the straps with the addition of weights. This makes the backpack easier to carry.

2. High Visibility

Another great thing about this backpack is that it is easily visible. This is because of the combination of its bright colors and reflective stripes.

What Are The Cons Of The Lifeunion Dog Backpack?

The following are cons of the Lifeunion Dog Backpack:

  • This dog backpack is not durable enough to endure tough trails.
  • The bag does not seem to stay balanced. It keeps sliding to the heavier side.

1. Not For Hardcore Stuff

One thing to note about this backpack is that it is not for hardcore hiking or camping for days. The space in the bags is only big enough to store a few things. It’s not big enough to carry your dogs’ essentials that he would need for a really long trip.

So, if you want something for short trips or exercise, then you can get this backpack. On the other hand, if you want something for very long trips and trails, you might want to check out other options first.

2. Sliding

The bag keeps sliding to either side. Most of the time, the bag slides to the side with the heavier weight. The best way to prevent this is to put even weights on the two sides of the bag.

What Do People Think About The Lifeunion Dog Backpack?

Well, people who have used the Lifeunion Dog Backpack think that it is a pretty decent backpack. However, they warn others that the backpack is not for heavy lifting. It isn’t a backpack that will carry so many things at a time.

Most people who buy this use it for exercise, rather than to carry their dogs’ essentials for a trail.

On a good note, people absolutely love the color and visibility of this backpack. Because of the colors and reflective stripes, this backpack is one you can easily pick out, even when it’s pretty dark.

Should I Get The Lifeunion Dog Backpack?

The Lifeunion Dog Backpack is a pretty average dog backpack. However, just a quick warning, or two. The handle on top of the backpack should never be used to lift your dog off of the ground. Even if it’s strong enough to lift your dog, you’re putting too much weight on his rib cage, and the ribs could snap.

Also, do not spin dry, if you can, hand wash. If you can’t, machine wash isn’t bad either. However, always dry on the line.

Lifeunion Dog Backpack FAQs

Is The Lifeunion Dog Backpack Good?

The Lifeunion Dog Backpack is a decent buy if you need the backpack for light activity. It’s made of water-resistant polyester and is available in different colors, with reflective stripes that help to increase visibility when going on dark trails.

The Lifeunion Dog Backpack is also quite affordable as well.

Nonetheless, this backpack is not suited for heavy use, and also keeps sliding toward the heavier side.

Can I Carry My Dog In A Backpack?

If your dog feels squirmish in a dog backpack, they might feel more comfortable in a backpack. The backpack gives room for your dog to stick out his head and limbs which might make him feel less squirmish.

To make a backpack even more comfortable for your dog, get a backpack with adjustable leg and head openings to give a snug fit that’s comfortable for your dog.

How Much Can A Dog Carry In A Backpack?

It really depends on your dog and their age and health status. If your dog is young and healthy, he should be able to carry about 25% of his weight conveniently.

However, there are dogs that are not cut out to carry stuff at all while some dogs only carry about 10% to 15% of their weight, maximum.

This is why it is always recommended that you consult with your vet first before giving your dog a backpack and deciding how much load you want your pup to carry.

How Does A Backpack Help A Dog?

The following are ways a backpack can help a dog:

  • A dog backpack can help your dog build muscle.
  • Giving your dog a backpack gives him something to do.
  • Dog backpacks help to build your dog’s focus.
  • Your dog carrying some stuff can be helpful for you.
  • Dogs sleep great after a good exercise.

What Age Can A Dog Wear A Backpack?

A growing dog should only wear an empty backpack to help him get used to the idea of wearing a backpack. A loaded backpack would put too much stress on your dog’s growing body which is not good for them.

Medium to large dogs should only begin wearing a backpack when they are a year and a half, at least. And because giant breeds mature much later, they should only start wearing a backpack when they are, at least, two years old.

Is 10 Miles Too Far For A Dog?

How far you can walk your dog would depend on your dog and what she is comfortable with. If your dog can go 10 miles or even more, there’s no reason not to walk her that distance. However, if she feels fully exercised after a trip around the block, then that’s sufficient walking for your dog and there’s no reason to go any further.
