Now that you’ve read through our article on dog raincoats, we’re sure you have penned down (could be mentally) a few things you will be keeping an eye out for while you check out this product. Without further ado, let’s talk about the brand – Fabdog.
The founder of the company Fabdog, Cassie Cole, had a little pooch named, Lucky. Buy! Was boy Lucky! Cassie always dressed her up beautifully, adorning her with leatherwear and rhinestone. After doing this for a while, one day, Cassie sat back and looked at Lucky and she said “Lucky is a fabdog!”
Now do you get why we asked the first question we did? We were asking if your dog was Lucky *winks*. Well, now, fabdog promise to its customers is to “dress your dog in quality clothing that’s comfortable and stylish”.
So, we know enough about the brand. If you want to know more, check them out @ their website fabdog.com.
Who Can Wear The Fabdog Packable Dog Raincoat?
Now that we know enough about the brand, we can begin the discuss about the product itself. But first, we have to figure out if your pooch can use this or not.
To determine whether or not your pooch can use this dog raincoat, we have to look at one important factor- the sizes available.
The various sizes available for this dog raincoat include;
- Extra small.
- 2X Large.
- 3X Large.
This size moves from really small, to really big. This is so that it can cater for a larger group of pups and as such, reach a lot more customers. To figure out whether your dog can use this dog raincoat, you would need to measure your dog.
Measure him properly and carefully. Once you’ve done that, compare the measurements you get with the measurements provided in the company’s sizing chart. You should find a match. However, if you do not find a match and your pups’ measurement falls in between two sizes, size up.
If you think the size up will be too big for your dog and the size down won’t size him at all, then you need to get another dog raincoat, this one is not for your pup. You can skip to our “alternative options”. There we give you other dog raincoats, at least one should have your pups’ size available.
Features Of The Fabdog Packable Dog Raincoat
The Fabdog Packable Dog Raincoat is made with a nylon shell and mesh lining. Nylon is a very good water-resistant material. It’ll keep your pup dry even if he’s under the rain for hours (it’s not advisable).
Some might even argue that nylon is a better water-resistant material than polyester is and tbh, they would not be wrong. But there are other things you have to consider about nylon. It might be a better water-resistant material, but it isn’t as strong as polyester.
What do we mean? Nylon is a soft material, it rips easily. With this dog raincoat, you’ll have to be extra careful so you don’t rip the material. If you have a very aggressive dog, don’t even think about it. If you have an active dog that you love to go into the woods with, don’t think about this either.
Also, the material is lightweight. This is a good thing because it’ll dry fast, and that’s something you want if it’s going to be raining for 7 straight days. However, this wouldn’t keep your pooch warm. The manufacturers tried to add mesh lining but that doesn’t keep in any warmth.
For those who don’t know, mesh material is simply a net-like fabric. It doesn’t provide any form of insulation for your dog. That simply means that, with this dog raincoat, your pooch is only safe from the rain and not the cold.
If you want to use this dog raincoat in sub-zero conditions, you would have to wear it on top of a sweater and we don’t know if your dog would be comfortable with multiple layers of clothing on.
This dog raincoat is available in 9 different colors. That gives you a lot of options to choose from, and some anxiety if you have a problem with making decisions. All the nine colors are beautiful. All of them are functional, except “navy blue”.
What do we mean by functional? What we basically mean is that the colors are easy to see, especially in the dark. If you’ve read through our article on dog raincoats, you’ll understand how important it is. However, excerpts: “So, with these dog raincoats that have bright colors, the danger that is; low visibility during the raining season, is curbed.”
Pros Of The Fabdog Packable Dog Raincoat
1. Leash Access Hole With Flap Cover
This dog raincoat comes with a leash access hole. This is a small slit on the neck of the dog raincoat that allows you to pass your leash through to your dogs’ collar or harness. When you’re going out, it’s very important that your dog is on a leash, it’s more important when it’s raining.
When it’s raining, your dog might get frightened of the lightning and be tempted to run away. If there is no leash restricting him, he’s off! Into the dangerous streets of wherever you live. He might run into the road and get hit by a car, and that would be tragic.
Also, the flap cover that covers the hole is one to be glad for. Most times, little droplets of water sneak into your dog through this leash access hole, not with this dog raincoat. With this, once your leash is through, you close the flap and block every form of rain coming in.
This dog raincoat comes with a pocket. This pocket you can use to keep little things like treat bags, water bottles and the rest. It might not be much, but it sure would relief your hands of a little load.
Like in the picture above, you can also fold the whole raincoat into the pockets for easy transport.
Only For Light Showers
This dog raincoat doesn’t cover the frontside of your pup. It only comes with a thin Velcro strap that goes across your dogs’ belly, nothing is really covered.
If you have a short dog whose really close to the ground, they’ll come back from a walk soaked on their frontside. You will only be able to use this for light showers. This is because as the rain gets heavier, puddles get bigger, as that happens, splashes get bigger too.
When your dog walks in the rain, he’s most likely to splash a lot of puddles. Without any covering, his chest and belly will get wet from “puddle splashes”.
Another reason why this is only good for light showers is the fact that the material is so thin. If there’s strong wind out there, you better leave this at home. Because, there would really be no difference if you walked your pup bare, under the rain, and if you use this dog raincoat when it’s really windy.
The breeze will just blow the whole raincoat open and the rains will come down heavily on him.

What Do People Think?
Everyone who bought this dog raincoat have subjected it to just “going number 2” because that’s pretty much how much rainfall it can shield against.
If you want something for a much longer walk, you would have to get something else for your pooch.
What Do We Think?
Too poor! This is what you call a cheap product. Not affordable, cheap. Made with low-grade materials and it doesn’t even cover your pup properly.
This does not cut it for us.
