Who Can Wear The 2PET Hiking Dog Backpack?
This backpack can only be worn by medium and large-sized dogs.
Normally, backpacks shouldn’t be used for tiny breeds because the weight might be too much for them.
Features Of The 2PET Hiking Dog Backpack
1. Material
The 2PET Hiking Dog Backpack is made with two different materials. One makes up the majority of the backpack, while the other acts as a subsidiary.
The company didn’t name the first material used. However, from reactions from customers, we noticed that this material is not weather-resistant.
A potential buyer asked the question “is this weather-resistant?” and was replied by a verified customer that it wasn’t.
The customer claimed that while the dog backpack is good enough in light drizzles, he wouldn’t advise it as a replacement to dog raincoats.
Being that weather doesn’t only refer to rainfall, we took that to mean that this raincoat doesn’t provide heat.
This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on when and where you intend to use it.
If you intend using this dog backpack on a trail in the winter, and you live in a place where winter temperatures drop below zero, it is bad.
In that type of cold, just as you would need a sweater and a winter coat, so will your dog.
However, if you don’t intend going out in such extreme conditions and prefer to go out during the summer when the sun is out and warm, then it’s a good thing.
People often overlook it, but your dog overheating is more dangerous than him getting a cold.
It’s more dangerous because at least when your dog is cold you can tell easily by his actions.
When he’s overheating, you might think he’s just being “stubborn” or “needs training”, not knowing he’s dying inside. Which leads us to the subsidiary material:
Mesh
Some parts of this dog backpack are made with mesh fabric, a net material made from polyester.
This is added to make this dog backpack more breathable, and well, thereby, prevent overheating.
Another good thing about mesh is that it doesn’t retain moisture, so, it dries fast.
This is important if you go running every day and want a backpack you can use regularly, wash and use the next day.
2. Design – Doubles As Harness And Backpack
The design of this dog raincoat is quite unique and something that attracts us.
From the beginning we’ve been calling this a dog backpack, right? But it is indeed more than that, it is also a dog harness.
How?
Well, the backpack is detachable. So, when you want, it’s a backpack, and other times, it’s just a harness.
Two small saddles are added to the two sides of the harness through Velcro straps, to make the dog backpack.
However, they are Velcro straps, so, don’t expect them to be as strong as buckles.
What we mean is that, because they are Velcro straps, the weight you can put into this backpack is limited.
If you put too much weight into these saddles, the Velcro straps will come undone and the saddles will fall down.
3. Available In Two Color Options
This backpack is available in two colors; blue and pink.
(This is just by the way, the manufacturers wrote “cheerful pink”, please, just asking for a friend, is there sad pink? Kindly let us know in the comment section, lol.)
But back to the main point, these two colors are quite good.
Not a necessity, but dog backpacks are better when they’re easier to see. That way, it’ll be easier for you to see your pooch when you guys stay out late on the trail.
4. Velcro Strap Fasteners
The 2PET Hiking Dog Backpack uses different fasteners for different parts. First, just like we’ve said earlier, the saddles hook on to the harness using Velcro straps.
Now, the fasteners used to hook the harness itself, to your dog, are buckles.
There are three buckles; two across the sides, and one on his chest. These buckles ensure that the backpack doesn’t fall off your dog’s back while you guys are busy hiking or hunting.
Pros Of The 2PET Hiking Dog Backpack
1. Versatility
One huge upside to this dog raincoat is that it is versatile. You can use it as just a harness for the short walk around the block, and you can use it as a backpack for the long walk into the wild.
Also, you can use it to get more exercise out of your dog by adding some weights into the saddles.
Plus, it comes with a handle that you can use to carry the bag about yourself if you feel your dog is too tired.
Please, the handle on top is for carrying the bag, not the dog. The handle is not strong enough to lift the dog, it could break and send your dog crashing to the ground.
2. Detachable Saddles
The fact that this backpack has detachable saddles is a good thing, because, with these, you can easily remove the weight from your dog during rest period.
If you go for hikes and long trails, you’ll often take breaks to rest and probably snack.
During these periods, instead of you having to remove the whole backpack, you could just take off the saddles. That way, you will be relieving your dog of the weight.
3. Breathable
This backpack is very airy and breathable. With this, you can go out when the sun is scorching without fear that your dog will overheat.
But please, when the sun is very hot, don’t forget to hydrate your dog properly and take rests under shades.
4. High Visibility
You get high visibility thanks to the colors of the backpack, coupled with the reflective stripes on it.
The reflective stripes glow in the dark by reflecting the light that bounces off of them.
Of course, the glow is only visible in the dark because there is only very little source of light.
But it helps your adventure together especially when it starts to get dark. You can be sure that your pup will always be visible to you and others.
Cons
The Velcro Isn’t Strong Enough
People who hiked with their dogs wearing this complained that when their dogs rolled, the Velcro came undone, dropping the saddles.
These are pretty disturbing testimonies as we are buying this because of the backpack, not the harness.
Another thing is that the saddles cannot carry a lot of weight without falling off.
A particular customer mentioned that his dog was carrying about 6-7 pounds of dog food in the saddles and they couldn’t hold.
You might want to keep these in mind.

Well, people like this backpack. They like the fact that it’s versatile, being able to work as a backpack and a harness.
Everyone loves a two-for-one package, after all.
However, there are a lot of complaints about the quality of the Velcro straps.
What Do We Think?

To us, this kinda works, although we almost feel like the velcro problem was a serious yet obvious oversight.
